August 25th, Johannesburg, South Africa- The Solar Show Africa 2022 held in the Sandton Convention Centre from August 23 - 24 was a great success! Solis, one of the world's largest and most experienced string inverter manufacturers, displayed a varied selection from its wide solar inverter portfolio.
Solis exhibited its 6th generation inverters, intelligent grid-tied and off-grid energy storage inverters, as well as its new SolisCloud monitoring platform. Single phase S6-GR1P(2.5-6)K, S6-EH1P(3-6)K-L and three phase S6-EH3P(5-10)K-H. Hugely sought after and achieving a lot of attention were the C&I products S5-GC(50-70)K and S5-GC(100-110)K, and the utility scale Solis-(215-255)K-EHV-5G.
Energy storage is a vital element within the solar mix for Africa as it is an ideal solution to help compensate for an unstable grid. Combined with ongoing energy price rises, energy storage can boost commercial end-user yield and ROI by combining a higher output power with lower power costs. A particular benefit of choosing Solis for energy storage is that its inverters are compatible with several globally recognized battery brands to provide customers with more choice and flexibility around availability.
Sandy Woodward,General Manager for Solis Europe & Africa, said ‘Solis has a total installed capacity of over 40GW worldwide, and a well-established sales and technical support team in South Africa. Solis remains focused on its corporate mission of ‘developing technology to power the world with clean energy', and we will play our role in the transition to clean energy by helping make it more efficient, safe, and dependable.’
The annual installed solar PV capacity in South Africa is expected to reach approximately 1.3GW in 2022 according to certain research, of which 120MW, 510MW and 680MW will come from residential, commercial & industrial and utility segments, respectively. The rooftop PV market in particular is expected to grow rapidly. To meet South Africa's 2022 target of approximately 1.3GW of installed solar PV capacity, the government announced it is to remove a licensing exemption threshold for embedded generation and introduce a feed-in tariff (FiT) mechanism. The public utility Eskom will also develop a FiT for commercial and residential installations on its network that would go some way to alleviating the current lack of electricity generation.
