According to the forecast by relevant institutions, the newly installed capacity of solar PV power in South Korea will reach 4.5 GW in 2022, of which 0.4 GW, 3.4 GW, and 0.64 GW will come from residential, industrial, and commercial, and ground applications, respectively. As stated in 9th basic plan for power supply and demand, the government of South Korea is committed to increasing the proportion of renewable energy in the total installed capacity to 42, that is, 36.5 GW by 2034. South Korea's solar energy market has always been governed by policies governing solar energy construction sites. Rooftop applications and large-scale PV systems are currently primarily supported through bidding in South Korea.

South Korean authorities allocated a total of 4.2 GW PV in the last two bidding rounds of 2021. Furthermore, due to the lack of a grid distribution network, the South Korean energy storage market will expand. In the first half of 2021, as much as 64 percent of PV solar power in need of grid connection went unutilized. It is estimated that the country's cumulative installed energy storage capacity will reach 1 GW by 2025, mainly concentrated in industrial and commercial energy storage.
